Yakima Gas Prices Hit Year’s Highs, Diesel Surges to Multi-Year Levels
Yakima residents are feeling the pinch at the pump as gas prices in the city have experienced their largest jump so far this year.
THE LARGEST INCREASE WE'VE SEEN SO FAR THIS YEAR
Over the past week, the average price of regular unleaded gas in Yakima has soared by 38.4 cents per gallon, reaching an average of $4.89 today, according to GasBuddy's survey of 91 stations across the area.
This sharp increase in Yakima reflects the national trends, with diesel prices also hitting levels not seen in years.
IF YOU PUMP DIESEL GET READY TO PAY
The average cost of diesel across the United States has risen by 27 cents in the past week, now standing at $5.22 per gallon — the highest since November 24, 2022.
In Yakima, the cheapest gas can be found at the Sinclair/Ahtanum Fuel Stop on Goodman Road, where prices are as low as $4.39 per gallon.
If you're willing to take a drive to the lower Yakima valley Wheeler's Kountry Korner in Wapato offers the cheapest gas in the region at just $4.13 per gallon.

SO WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON?
Experts say the ongoing surge in prices is due to seasonal factors and supply concerns, especially related to disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz. Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, says “gas prices continued to rise nationwide over the last week as seasonal factors, combined with ongoing supply concerns tied to the continued disruption in the Strait of Hormuz, pushed both gasoline and diesel prices sharply higher.”
HERE COMES THE RISE ON THE NATIONAL SIDE
De Haan adds that the trend suggests the national average for gasoline may hit $4 per gallon as early as this week — a milestone not reached since 2022. Meanwhile, diesel prices are climbing to multi-year highs, with some markets nearing record levels. He warns global oil prices continue to climb, and early indicators suggest consumers might start to pull back on driving in response to the rapid price increases.
