Gas Prices Ease Up in Yakima, But Experts Warn Prices Could Rise Again
Looking to keep more cash in your wallet? We’ve got the scoop on gas prices and some handy tips to save money at the pump! Right now, the average cost of a gallon of regular unleaded in Yakima is $3.45 — that’s down 4.3 cents from last week! According to GasBuddy’s survey of 91 stations in the area, prices have been easing up a bit, making it a good time to fill up.
ARE YOU WINNING?
Compared to a month ago, gas prices are 11.7 cents lower per gallon, and over the past year, they’ve dropped by 11.8 cents. So, if you’ve been holding onto your wallet, you’re winning!
SOME BAD NEWS
But it’s not all good news everywhere. Nationally, diesel prices have increased by 7.8 cents in the past week, now averaging $3.54 per gallon. That’s because colder weather is boosting demand for heating oil, which can push diesel prices higher.
WANT THE CHEAPEST GAS IN YAKIMA OR THE VALLEY?
If you’re hunting for the cheapest gas in Yakima, head over to Sinclair Ahtanum Fuel Stop on Goodman Road — they’re offering regular at just $2.99 per gallon! And for the absolute best deal in the Yakima Valley, the Conoco in Toppenish has regular gas at a whopping $2.78 per gallon.
WHAT'S GOING ON WITH PRICES?
What’s driving these changes? Patrick De Haan, GasBuddy’s petroleum analysis boss, explains: “Gasoline prices have jumped for a second straight week as oil prices climb above $60 a barrel amid ongoing geopolitical tensions. New sanctions on Iran’s oil are making it harder for barrels to reach the market, tightening supply."
Plus De Haan says the winter storm sent temperatures plunging possibly disrupting refineries and reducing output. All these factors he says could continue to push prices up this week.
