Good news for drivers in Yakima — gas prices are on a steady decline, with some stations selling fuel for under $3 a gallon. According to GasBuddy’s latest survey of 91 stations across Yakima, the average gasoline price has dropped by 13.2 cents in the past week, now averaging $3.40 per gallon.

LOOKING BACK TO LAST YEAR PRICES CONTINUE TO FALL

Prices are down big time compared to a month ago — down by 51.7 cents per gallon — and are also 9.4 cents lower than they were a year ago. The national average price for diesel fuel has decreased slightly as well, dropping 2.3 cents to $3.49 per gallon.

GAS UNDER $3 A GALLON FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS YEAR

For those looking for the best deals, Ahtanum Fuel Stop on Goodman Road is offering gas at $2.99 per gallon, the lowest in the Yakima area as of Sunday. In Wapato, Wheelers Kountry Korner has the cheapest fuel in the valley at $2.58 per gallon.

MORE DECLINES ON THE WAY

Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy says "another week, and motorists have been greeted with the sixth straight weekly decline in the national average price of gasoline as seasonality continues to drive trends at the pump.” He added that while some states have seen price increases, most are experiencing slight declines, often following larger drops in a pattern known as ‘price-cycling.

CHANGES IN VENEZUELA COULD IMPACT PRICES?

De Haan also talks about upcoming developments in the global oil market, noting that new factors—such as changes in Venezuela—may influence future prices. However, he cautioned that significant price changes are unlikely in the near term, stating, “It could take years of positive developments for additional supply to meaningfully move the needle, and the impact on U.S. gasoline prices may ultimately be limited.”
