Market Analysts Warn of Continued Gas Price Increases in Yakima
Everyone is watching the price of gas these days and it's shooting up rather than down and that has many drivers re-thinking summer driving plans. The experts suggest 2026 could become a summer of "staycations." So many drivers are looking for the most affordable gas prices.
GAS PRICES UP AGAIN THIS WEEK
Gasoline prices in Yakima have surged by an average of 17.8 cents per gallon over the past week, reaching $5.29 per gallon today, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 91 stations in the area. Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy says the recent spike reflects ongoing volatility in fuel markets nationwide.
Across Washington state, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded stands at $5.67.

THE CHEAPEST GAS IN YAKIMA THIS WEEK?
In Yakima, the most affordable gas is priced at $4.99 per gallon at the Sinclair/Ahtanum Fuel Stop on Goodman Road. The lowest price in the Yakima Valley can be found at Wheeler’s Kountry Korner in Wapato, where gas is available for $4.68 per gallon.
EVERYONE FEELING THE PAIN OF HIGH PRICES
De Haan says gasoline prices have increased in every state over the last week. He highlighted significant jumps in the Great Lakes region, where Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, and Illinois saw sharp rises. Diesel prices also hit new records in some areas, touching $6 per gallon, driven largely by refinery outages.
SOME SIGNS OF RELIEF?
Despite the rising costs, some signs of relief are emerging.
De Haan points out that efforts such as OPEC+ increasing June production and President Trump’s recent plans to free stranded ships could help stabilize supply and ease prices. However, he cautions that the market remains highly unpredictable, and the rise in gas prices is expected to continue in the near future.
