WA Drivers Get Relief as Gas Prices Drop for Two Weeks Nationwide
Drivers across the country are finally getting some relief at the pump, as national and local gas prices have declined for two straight weeks. According to AAA, the national average for regular gasoline has dropped by 32 cents over that period, now at $4.22 per gallon. In Washington State, the average remains higher at $5.65 per gallon.
BIG CHANGES FROM LAST MONTH
This recent decrease marks a big change from the peak of $4.56 per gallon, first reached on May 7 and briefly matched again on May 21.
The earlier surge was driven by rising oil prices, fueled by ongoing tensions involving Iran, which unsettled global energy markets and pushed fuel costs higher.

WILL THE RELIEF LAST THIS SUMMER? CHEAPER PRICES SOON?
While the lower prices are welcome news for consumers, analysts caution that the outlook remains uncertain. Oil markets continue to react to geopolitical tensions, especially around Iran and the Strait of Hormuz, an important shipping route for crude oil.
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, warned that this summer could be “the most volatile at the pump in years,” adding that even if the Strait reopens, it could take a year or more for prices to stabilize fully.

YAKIMA PRICES TODAY
In Yakima, gasoline prices have also decreased. According to GasBuddy, the average price in Yakima is now $5.44 per gallon, down 3.9 cents in the past week.
A CHOICE NOT AVAILABLE TO OTHER DRIVERS IN THE STATE
Yakima drivers have a the choice of driving to tribal land where the Yakama Nation doesn't charge a state gas tax. The cheapest gas in Yakima is $4.75 per gallon at the Costco in Union Gap, while the lowest in the Yakima Valley is $4.55 at the Wolf Den in Wapato.
