THE OLDEST TOWN IN WASHINGTON STATE

When Washington state was first colonized, settlers stuck their claims into Steilacoom. They built Washington’s first jail, public library, school, and even the first church. More importantly (to me) they built the first Washington brewery. That was back in 1854, and some two centuries later, Steilacoom has become a bustling small town filled with fun things to do. If you’ve never ventured out that way, let’s look at some of the most popular things that tourists like to do in Washington’s oldest town.

Steilacoom is about an hour away from Seattle (on a good day with no major traffic). It’s located in Pierce County and is home to less than 7,000 residents. It’s right on the coast of the Puget Sound, and you can see several Washington state islands in the distance from the shore. What a lovely sight!
