A section of unused railroad tracks that cross 1st Street at H Street will be removed this Thursday, June 14th. The removal of the unused tracks will begin at 6:00 a.m. on Thursday. Work to take out the tracks and repave the area with asphalt is expected to be completed by 4:00 pm that day.

The project will affect traffic flow in the area while it is underway.  Throughout the day on Thursday, traffic on 1st Street near the site of the track removal will be restricted to one lane in each direction.  Additionally, H Street will be closed to traffic between 2nd Street and Front Street.

Drivers are encourage to use alternate routes if possible.

The railroad tracks that are being removed are part of a spur that used to serve the Boise Cascade saw mill. Since wood processing operations at the old saw mill have ceased, the tracks have gone unused.

For additional information regarding the removal of the railroad tracks at 1st Street at H Street, contact the City of Yakima Streets Division by phone (575-6005) or by e-mail (traffic@ci.yakimawa.us).
