Firework sales have started on the Yakama reservation but those fireworks are banned for use off tribal land.
Fireworks are also banned within city limits because of concerns about fire and safety. The sale, possession, and discharge of fireworks are completely banned in all unincorporated areas of Yakima County. Violations can result in fines up to $1,000.

NO FIREWORKS USE OR SALE IN CITY OF YAKIMA

Officials from the the Yakima Fire Department remind everyone that per Yakima Municipal Code it is illegal to store, sell, possess or discharge fireworks in the City of Yakima. “We encourage community members to celebrate safely this July 4th, and that includes not discharging fireworks in the City,” says Yakima Fire Chief Aaron Markham. “Each year there are a number of fires that result from the use of fireworks.”

EVEN THOUGH FIREWORKS ARE BANNED THEY STILL CAUSE PROBLEMS

Even though fireworks have been banned for years in the city they cause problems every year. Over the last several years Yakima Firefighters have been busy with numerous small brush and grass fires caused by illegal fireworks.
Fire officials are hoping instead of playing with fireworks that you'll attend a free public fireworks show like the celebration at Yakima's State Fair Park. The fireworks start at 10:00 pm Monday at State Fair Park, 1301 South Fair Avenue.
