AP-The Environmental Protection Agency has ordered two gas stations to close their underground injection wells to protect drinking water on the Yakama Indian Reservation. The agency also announced penalties against the stations Wednesday. The EPA says in a statement that Da Stor at Lillie's Corner gas station in Wapato will pay $13,140, while the Cougar Den gas station in White Swan will pay $11,991. The Wapato station operates two underground injection wells, while the White Swan station operates one well. The wells dispose of untreated fluids collected through open drains on the fueling pads and may contain contaminants such as benzene, chromium and lead.
