
Weaker Dollar, Not Trade War, Fuels Higher Gas Prices
Is this trade war contributing to higher gas prices in Yakima? All the experts pretty much agree it's not the trade war but rather the value of the dollar.
WAIT OUR GAS PRICES TIED TO THE WEAKNESS OF THE DOLLAR?
When the value of the dollar drops, oil prices rise. With a weaker dollar oil producers make less money to they make up that money by increasing prices. Unfortunately for drivers in Washington state the increase in gas prices is more painful because of the high cost of state gas taxes which are nearly fifty-cents per gallon.
GAS PRICES TAKE A BIG JUMP THIS WEEK
Plus it's that time of year when more people are driving so with increased demand come increased prices. So as grocery store and restaurant prices continue to climb so to does the price of gas.
In fact average gasoline prices in Yakima take a big jump this week up 21.8 cents per gallon, averaging $4.08 per gallon today, according to GasBuddy's survey of 91 stations in Yakima.
EVEN THE PRICE OF DIESEL IS UP
Prices in Yakima are 36.5 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand 31.8 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. If you drive a diesel powered vehicle the price of diesel has increased 3.6 cents in the last week and stands at $3.59 per gallon.
A SHORT DRIVE TO CHEAPER GAS
We know where to find the cheapest gas in the valley! You'll have to take a drive to Wheelers Kountry Korner in Wapato where gas is selling for $3.43 per gallon. Cheapest in Yakima? Gas selling for $3.68 at Costco in Union Gap and Ahtanum Fuel Stop on Goodman road.
