Once a year we get a national holiday to honor the memory of our dearly departed military family and friends during Memorial Day Weekend.

The holiday falls on Monday, May 26th this year. Some Washingtonians will spend it searching high and low for great sales, others will have backyard barbecues, go on camping trips, take their boats to Lake Chelan, or stay closer to home looking for something to do with all that free time.

Yakima Valley will be hopping with activities for kids and adults alike. Whether you're single, an empty nester, or loaded with kids, you'll find something interesting you can discover to do around here. (Note: On Memorial Day Monday, the Yakama Indian Health Service will be closed, and Yakima Transit buses are also closed.)

On Friday, May 23rd, there's Music Bingo at a local Yakima brewery on the outskirts of downtown Yakima.

Saturday, May 24th, will bring the most of the Memorial Day Weekend events, with things to do ranging from an exciting zoom competition at a raceway in Wapato to farm tours, art gallery exhibits from local community college students, a Lower Valley scout troop Memorial Day Weekend breakfast, a "book bingo" (I'm not sure what that will entail but it sounds intriguing), and a hangout for people who love showing off their collectible cars and coffee.

Sunday, May 25th, presents a free class for young people to learn the fun art of comedy improv, and on Memorial Day Monday, there's a paint, eat, and sip at a local pub inside a movie theater, a "brochet" event just for the fellas to crochet, socialize, and drink pints of beer, and for all veterans there's a free hot dog waiting for you at a winery in the Lower Valley.

A Memorial Day ceremony will also be held in Wapato at 11 a.m.
