Ten people are now in the running to fill the seat of retiring Yakima County Commissioner Mike Leita. Officials with the Yakima County Republican Party are still searching for candidates. The deadline to enter the race is September 22.
So far 10 people have declared they're candidates. They are business owner Vicki Baker, mortgage broker Amanda Mckinney, retired police officer Nolan Wentz, Timothy Smith with Yakima County Public Works, retired teacher, administrator and author Earl Lee, private care provider Christine Dimas, Jamon Rivera, Senior Director of Revenue Operations, Virginia Mason Memorial Hospital, retired businessman Patrick Mc Carthy, retired banker Juan Aguilar and business consultant Ricardo deVilla Jr.
The Chair of the Yakima County Republican Central Committee Debra Manjarez says on October 3 the Republican Party will hold an event at the Howard Johnson where they will hear from candidates and choose three people to fill the District 1 seat. Commissioners Norm Childress and Ron Anderson will then make the final choice. That person will then fill the remainder of Leita's seat and then run for re-election in 2020.
