Earlier this year Yakima County Commissioner Mike Leita announced his retirement at the end of the year. As a result the Yakima County Republican Central Committee named three people the committee believes should replace Leita. On Friday commissioners Ron Anderson and Norm Childress are expected to meet with the candidates and then vote to appoint one of the three to fill the vacancy left by Leita. That person will then fill the remainder of Leita's term and then could run for re-election in 2020.
The three candidates are Vicki Baker, Amanda McKinney and Nolan Wentz. Baker is the owner of Yakima's Grocery Outlet, Wentz is a retired police officer and Mckinney is the owner of a mortgage company.
The person named as the replacement will be sworn in and start the job as a Yakima County Commissioner on Friday, January 3.
