Earlier this year, Yakima County Commissioner Mike Leita announced his retirement at the end of 2019. As a result, the Yakima County Republican Central Committee named three people the committee believes should replace Leita. On Friday commissioners Ron Anderson and Norm Childress named Vicki Baker as the person who will fill the vacancy left by Leita. Baker will now fill the remainder of Leita's term and then could run for re-election in 2020.
Baker, who is the co-owner of Yakima's Grocery Outlet, will be sworn in and start the job as a Yakima County commissioner on Friday, Jan. 3.
