After two years away from football, the pirate captain is back. Former Texas Tech coach Mike Leach was named the new head coach at Washington State on Wednesday. According to CBS Sports’ Bruce Feldman, who first broke the story, Leach’s contract will be for five years and will make him the third-highest paid coach in the Pac-12 at more than $2 million per year.

WSU head football coach Paul Wulff is out of a job after 4 less than successful seasons.  Things have been mostly gray for the crimson and gray posting a 9 win and 40 loss record under Wulff .  Wulff came from Eastern Washington which won a national championship a year ago.

WSU junior Klay Thompson was the 11th overall selection by the Golden State Warriors becoming just the second Cougar ever to be picked in the first round.  The warriors finished the season with a 36 win 46 loss season.

The WSU Cougars, who saw their NCAA Tourney hopes put on the rocks with an opening round loss in the Pac-10 Tournament, get a high seed in the National Invitation Tournament.
