Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, will be celebrated on Sunday, Oct. 26 from Noon to 5:00 p.m. at the Mighty Tieton Warehouse in Tieton.

The festivities are a Latino tradition that honors the dead and at the same time celebrates life.

Organizers describe Dia de los Muertos this way:

Day of the Dead celebrations began in Central America, and have roots in indigenous and Catholic traditions. Sweet sugar skulls, bright colors, and bitter-smelling czempazuchitl (calendula) flowers evoke vibrant, ephemeral life and bitter, inevitable death--embracing both.

The celebration features arts and crafts activities including sandpainting by Oaxacan artist, Fulgencio Lazo, face painting, papel picado-paper craft; sugar skull cookie decorating, screen printing, guest poet Raul Sanchez, a music and slide show honoring Los Muertos and more.

The Mighty Tieton Warehouse is located at 608 Wisconsin Avenue in Tieton. Admission is free.
