The President of the Yakima Arts Commission says she believes the Millennium Arts Project in front of the Capitol Theatre should be moved to Performance Park next to the Yakima County Courthouse to accommodate the proposed downtown plaza.

Noel Moxley says she disagrees with those that say the plaza art represents the heart of downtown.

I don’t hear people saying that the plaza is the heart of downtown. I think the Capitol Theatre represents the heart of downtown.

And because of that Moxley says she would be OK if the art was moved to another area of downtown like Performance Park. However she says she would not back moving the art out of the downtown area.

John Ball Director of the Yakima Valley Museum says moving the art project may allow more people to discover the art.

I think there’s multiple spots where you could put the art. I’ve even thought about what it would look like if you put it down by Seasons Performance Hall along the Naches parkway.

Ball also suggests Gilbert Park or even Franklin Park near the museum.

City officials are exploring all the possibilities. No decisions have been made. City officials say it may cost upwards of $200,000 to move.
