A high school teacher from Zillah is considered the best in the classroom out of 25 public school districts in this part of the state.
Educational Service District 105 announced Jeff Charbonneau as its Regional Teacher of the Year for all of South Central Washington.
Charbonneau teaches science at Zillah High school and was described as a trailblazer during a surprise ceremony Tuesday.

"It's a little embarrassing, a little humbling," Charbonneau told our news partner KIMA Action News. "I could not have done this without a ton of support from a bunch of different people. This is not an award about me, it's about the Zillah School District and what's good and positive about the Zillah High School. But, it's a little overwhelming to be honest."

Charbonneau is now in the running for Washington State Teacher of the Year.

The Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction will make that announcement next month in Seattle.
