Yakima County Sheriff Ken Irwin Tuesday awarded the medal of valor to Deputy Jason Conger for actions Conger took in a 2011 shooting in the Selah area.  Irwin says Conger was one of a number of authorities who responded to the shooting at a home on Speyers road. During the incident deputy conger risked his own life to save someone who was trying to escape the violence. Conger exposed himself to gunfire to rescue a woman and pull her to safety. the incident ended when the 18 year old shooter jumped in a vehicle and was shot to death while driving toward authorities at the scene. Conger offered his condolences to the family of the victim during yesterday’s ceremony at Yakima City Hall.
