Each year, Forenpohar Ranch in Selah puts on a fun shindig in May, a hoedown, if you will, and it's all for charity. The hoedown is a fundraiser for Yakima Valley Partners Habitat for Humanity.

The Habitat Store Is More Than Just a Thrift Store

You've probably done a bit of shopping at the Habitat Store on Mead Ave, close to Union Gap. The money from sales goes to support the efforts of Habitat for Humanity, a nonprofit that provides education, tools and volunteer labor to help low-income families build a home and feel full of hope.

The nonprofit also offers workshop classes and community resources that teach life-sustaining construction and carpentry skills to the community. I got to attend one of those Habitat carpentry classes a few years ago and I learned how to make a small wood bench from scratch!

I learned how to take random scrap wood and turn it into a beautiful and sturdy bench--we got to choose if it would be a work bench or decorative. The instructor also taught us how to stain the wood and everything!

What to Expect at the Hoedown Fundraiser Party

Your ticket to the Hoedown includes a gourmet dinner, some country & western dancing, live music with Pony Boys from Sunnyside, and the Hoedown's popular "Upcycled Auction". This auction showcases items that have been repurposed and recycled.

"Proceeds from the event directly support Yakima Valley Partners Habitat for Humanity’s mission to build homes, community, and hope throughout Yakima Valley." - Habitat for Humanity

The Hoedown for Housing is Saturday, May 30, 2026, from 4 to 10 p.m. at the Forenpohar Ranch (3600 Selah Loop Rd). Tickets are $125 or a table for $1,000, with proceeds going to support Habitat for Humanity's Yakima Valley partners.
