Parking Enforcement is Back: Downtown Yakima’s Parking Plan Starts Saturday
When was the last time you spent any time in downtown Yakima? If parking in downtown Yakima is part of your plan in the near future you need to know that things change downtown on Saturday. Parking is free in downtown Yakima right now but it ends on Saturday, June 1. So between now and then parking enforcement in downtown Yakima is on hold.
ENFORCEMENT PUT ON HOLD EARLIER THIS YEAR BUT IT'S BACK SATURDAY
Earlier this year the Yakima City Council put a hold on enforcement as the council contemplated a new parking plan. It took months to create the new plan with help of those who live and work in the downtown area. City officials are reminding drivers about the changes and enforcement that comes back this weekend.
LOTS OF NEW CHANGES UNDER THE NEW PLAN
Under the new plan drivers will enjoy;
3 hours free parking in 4 City-owned lots in the downtown area
2 hours free parking in on-street spots in the downtown area
The price of a monthly parking pass has been reduced from $50 to $20
The cost of a parking time limit fine has been reduced from $50 to $20.
CITY OFFICIALS ARE TALKING TO BUSINESS OWNERS DOWNTOWN THIS WEEK
City spokesperson Randy Beehler says the city trying to get the word out about all the changes in the downtown parking plan so no one is surprised.
Beehler says this week he's visiting businesses that are near the four City-owned lots in the downtown area to answer questions about the new regulations.
