Support Needed for Yakima Flower Displays

The Downtown Association of Yakima is hoping the community will help support the beautification of downtown Yakima by supporting the Downtown Yakima Flower Basket Program.

TAX DOLLARS HAVE BEEN CUT FROM THE PROGRAM

Every year, nearly 150 street-level planters and 287 hanging flower baskets are placed throughout downtown Yakima creating a welcoming colorful environment for foot traffic and local businesses. However, because of recent city budget cuts the program is no longer publicly funded, prompting the Downtown Association to create a program where you can help.

“Flowers play a bigger role than people might realize,” says Curt Wilson, Executive Director of the Downtown Association of Yakima. “They help create an environment where people want to stay longer, explore more, and come back again. He says that energy supports local businesses and strengthens downtown.

PASSIONATE COMMUNITY MEMBERS INVOLVED

A press release from the Downtown Association of Yakima says this year, the program is being lead by longtime community members Brian and Darsey Roberts. The release says alongside DAY Operations Manager José Munguia and the leadership team, the Roberts family is investing their time, talents, and resources to expand the scale, design, and overall impact of the floral displays,
Community members, local businesses, and organizations can help through various sponsorship opportunities, including:

Adopt-a-Basket ($150–$250)
Adopt-a-Planter ($250–$500)
Block Sponsorships ($1,000–$2,500+)
General donations of any amount

A FUNDRAISING GOAL YOU CAN HELP REACH

The Downtown Association has set a fundraising goal of $45,000 to fully fund the flower program for the upcoming season. Contributions of all sizes are welcomed and appreciated as the community comes together to keep downtown Yakima colorful, vibrant, and inviting.
