After his second arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol in less than seven months, Sunnyside School District Superintendent, Dr. Richard Cole, has submitted his plans to resign at the end of the school year.
The 63-year-old has taken a leave of absence and is expected to enter into a treatment program.

According to public record documents, Cole's first DUI happened June of last year in Benton County. His second DUI arrest happened this past Saturday in Yakima County while Cole was driving a district vehicle.

Cole is expected to be arraigned for his second DUI arrest February 5th, where he is facing two charges, driving under the influence and driving without an ignition interlock device. The Sunnyside School board is expected to appoint former Superintendent Mac Chambers to lead the district as the search begins for a replacement for Cole.
