A gunman who fired a weapon at Sunnyside Police officers during a traffic stop Saturday night is dead and the officers involved are on administrative leave. It happened Saturday night when officers stopped a vehicle at 6th and Edison in Sunnyside after reports that those in the vehicle were involved in some type of incident involving gunfire just momemts before. As the officers were taking those in the vehicle into custody one person grabbed a gun and opened fire on the officers. They fired back and the person, who hasn't been identified died as a result. No officer was hit by the gunfire. An unknown number of officers remain on leave as the State Patrol handles the investigation. The incident comes on the heels of a deadly shooting last Thursday night when 16 year old Diane Lopez was shot by 4 gang members when she answered a knock at the her Outlook home. County Sheriff's Deputies and Sunnyside Police are looking for her shooters today.
