
Troopers Warn Drivers During “100 Deadliest Days” as Fatal Crashes Rise
The Washington State Patrol is warning drivers to pay attention during the "100 Deadliest Days" referring to the dangerous summer travel period between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

According to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the American Automobile Association, fatal car crashes increase by nearly 30% during this period, making it the most dangerous time of year for motorists.

TWO FATAL CRASHES IN YAKIMA
Over the weekend, two crashes in Yakima resulted in two deaths. highlighting the ongoing risks of summer driving. The first crash happened Saturday evening around 9:30 p.m. in Sunnyside.Washington State Patrol Troopers say 37-year-old Danny Moreno was driving eastbound on Edison Road, east of SR 241, when he lost control of his vehicle. The car left the roadway and rolled, resulting in Moreno’s death at the scene. Authorities noted that Moreno was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

THE SECOND CRASH ALSO ON SATURDAY
About half an hour later, a second fatal crash was reported in Union Gap. Troopers say a semi-truck traveling westbound on I-82, at exit 36, struck a pedestrian who had entered the westbound lanes.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene; No name has been released.
Both crashes remain under investigation as officials continue to look at the circumstances surrounding the crashes.
