The City of Yakima wants you and your neighbors to adopt your block. It's pretty simple to start and to keep it going: here's what you need to know.

Ever take a look around your neighborhood and wish you could make a complaint to someone that it looks kinda shoddy? The perfect solution might just be up to you--all you have to do is volunteer for the City's 'Adopt a Block'. This is the second year in a row for the program.

Find Out About Adopt a Block

First take a look to see if your neighborhood has been claimed yet. Adopt a Block participants agree to help keep their alleys, roadways, sidewalks, tree spaces, and other public spaces in between private property lines. Go have a chat with your neighbors and get them to sign up for four (4) neighborhood cleanup parties a year--for the next two years.

"Groups can conduct monthly cleanup activities, weekly or biweekly walkthroughs of blocks and other periodic cleanup activities if they choose." - Adopt a Block Yakima

Grab Your Gear and Sign Up

You and your neighbors will provide your own cleaning supplies (cleaning gloves, tools, trash bags, etc.). All the trash you collect can be placed in "your personal residential trash can, if space allows."

If your Adopt a Block cleanup trash overwhelms your regular trash bins, you can use the Yak Back line to schedule a trash pickup.

Yakima Habitat of Humanity reviews each application, but first, create an account and sign up on the form to get started.
