School Shooting Triggers Gun Bill In Legislature

EVERETT, Wash. (AP) — The shooting at Marysville-Pilchuck High School has prompted a state representative to re-introduce a bill that would make it a crime to leave a loaded gun where a child could find it.

Rep. Ruth Kagi of Seattle has proposed the bill in the past two sessions in Olympia without success. She thinks it will get more attention in January because the 15-year-old Marysville student was able to get a gun to shoot five classmates and himself. She says a safe-storage law would reduce shootings by children.

Investigators say the handgun used in the Marysville shooting was legally acquired, but they haven't said who it belongs to.
