Yakima Police Stopping Hundreds of Drivers Every Week in The City
Have you been stopped for a traffic violation in the city of Yakima? Over the last year thousands of drivers have been warned or cited during ongoing speed emphasis patrols.
OFFICERS ARE REQUIRED TO MAKE TRAFFIC STOPS
In fact Yakima Police Officers are required to make 3 to 4 traffic stops everyday and the number of stops proves Officers are busy. During the week of August 3 through August 9 Officers made 799 traffic stops and issued 397 citations. The numbers show a majority of drivers continue to receive warnings.
DRIVERS CONTINUE TO IGNORE RED LIGHTS
The Officers also investigated 34 collisions with 19 collisions the result of a driver not stopping for a red light. 15 drivers were arrested for DUI.
Police are asking drivers to be careful when near at at the three intersections in the city that have seen a majority of red light crashes over the last 6 months.
The intersections in the city of Yakima are located at;
Nob Hll and South Fair Avenue.

POLICE ARE HOPING TO CURB THE NUMBER OF RED LIGHT CRASHES BUT THE NUMBERS HAVE REMAINED HIGH
Police say numerous crashes have been reported in intersections over the last 6 months. Police say all the crashes have been the result of drivers not stopping for a red light.
The week before Officers made 829 stops and issued 252 citations. Police investigated 25 collisions with 12 the result of running a red light.
