Did you drop some change in a Salvation Army Red Kettle during the Christmas holiday? Spokesperson Lisa Sargent says they use the money to fund programs and services in the new year. "It funds our food bank or our rental assistance and utility assistance. All for people who come to us for help."
In 2017 the Salvation Army was able to raise a record $118,000 but in 2018 the figure was down. This past Christmas season the Salvation Army collected a total of $107,000. Sargent says that's still a lot of money people contributed and it'll be used to help people in Yakima in the new year.
