The popularity of pickleball is growing in the Yakima valley and you'll soon be able to play the game at Franklin Park. Yakima City officials say three of the six tennis courts at Franklin Park are now being converted to pickleball courts.
Pickleball is a combination of tennis, badminton and ping-pong using paddles and wiffle balls. The Yakima City Parks and Recreation Manager Ken Wilkenson says the courts at Franklin Park have needed major renovation work for years. He says a local Pickleball group has pledged volunteers and funding for the new courts expected to cost about $10,000.  Sig Fossum the owner of the Sporthaus in Yakima is also helping with the project because of his expertise in renovating local tennis courts.
The new Pickleball courts are expected to be open at the end of the summer.
