It's time to celebrate America in Yakima.
You're invited to the free, family-friendly celebration honoring the 250th anniversary of the nation’s founding at Yakima's Franklin Park next month.
A DAY LONG EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE
According to a press release the special event, set for Saturday June 13 offers an experience designed to bring history to life and help visitors of all ages understand the early years of the United States. The festivities kick off with a parade through the park at 9:30 a.m., featuring period-dressed interpreters portraying iconic figures like George Washington, John Hancock, Yakama Nation Members, and everyday historical characters.

LOTS OF ACTIVITIES TO WATCH
You can explore demonstrations of musket drills, dancing, beading, basket making, candle making, spinning, and lace work.
Educational talks will cover topics such as life 250 years ago, the formation of government, Native American history, women’s roles, and the history of American flags. There will also be a drop-off location for worn flags needing proper retirement.
HISTORICAL FIGURES WILL MAKE AN APPEARANCE
You can grab a picture with re-enactors portraying George Washington and John Hancock, view displays of everyday items from the era, and observe encampments of soldiers and Yakama Nation Members.
