Moxee Prepares to Unveil New Community Mural Celebrating Local Heritage
For centuries, the Yakama Nation thrived while relying on the land and river for survival. This year, as the nation celebrates 250 years of American independence, Moxee also commemorates nearly 150 years since European settlers first arrived in the Moxee Valley.
THE NEW MURAL WILL BE PAINTED IN MID APRIL
Moxee was officially incorporated on April 21, 1921, with a population of just over 300 residents. Over the years, it gained fame as the “Hop Capital of the World,” thanks to its prolific hop fields. This proud history and hardworking spirit will soon be celebrated in a new community mural, set to be unveiled in April. READ MORE: SPECIAL EASTER RIDES ON YAKIMA VALLEY TROLLEYS
CAPTURING THE RICH HERITAGE IN A MURAL
A press release from the East Valley Community Enhancement Association (EVCEA) says the mural captures Moxee’s rich heritage—rooted in agriculture, driven by dedication, and built on a close-knit community. It welcomes visitors and residents alike, celebrating where the city has been and where it’s headed.
YOU'RE INVITED TO THE DEDICATION CEREMONY
The mural dedication ceremony will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, April 18 at the corner of Moxee Ave. & Rivard Rd., on the Moxee Fire Station wall. The event will feature a presentation by mural artist Miguel Cuevas, remarks from city officials, community members, and leaders from the East Valley Community Enhancement Association (EVCEA). The Yakima Library Bookmobile will be on site, along with Moxee City Police and the E.V. Fire Department, offering free family safety activities.
