The year was 1999 and a 16-year-old girl was about to become the biggest Pop Star on the planet. (No, NOT Taylor Swift...yet)  Wikipedia reminds us that Britney Spears's debut single. "...Baby One More Time" would explode to the top of the music charts in 20 countries selling more than 10 million copies.

"Hit Me" Never meant HIT ME

In other words, Baby One More Time was kind of a big deal. As huge as it was, the lyrics of the song were still misinterpreted by some to mean Spears' "boyfriend-that-got-away" used physical violence. You know, as in "HIT" Me Baby.  That would be wrong. " Hit Me " is the equivalent of "Hit Me Up" or "Give Me A Call" Check out the Teen Queen "one more time " before watching Jack Black's humorous rendition.

Jack Black's Rendition "Hits" It Out Of the Park

That misinterpretation would be put to hilariously good use 25 years later when Actor/Comedian Jack Black chose to record a version of the song to promote his new animated movie Kung Fu Panda Four.  In all of the Kung Fu Panda movies, there is a whole lotta cartoon Kung-Fu-style hitting going on...so that aspect of the misinterpreted lyrics sort of fits! And it is hilarious!

By the way, the Kung Fu Panda franchise is a pretty big deal in its own right.

Dreamworks Animation is the creative muscle behind the beloved pudgy panda, voice acted by Black.  Forbes says the Kung Fu Panda is Top Ten animated franchise of all time and could climb even higher.

Kung Fu Panda 4 will carry the animated family franchise to $2 billion and beyond at the worldwide box office. The film opened with almost $59 million domestic, the second-biggest debut for the Kung Fu Panda series
