Kiwanis Skate Park to be Renamed in Honor of the Late Ron Bonlender

The Yakima City Council is expected to rename Apple Valley Kiwanis Skate Park to memorialize the late Ron Bonlender. The Yakima Parks Commission announced the approval to add Bonlender's name to the park. The idea came from the Apple Valley Kiwanis club.

Bonlender was a former city council member and also owned the Sub Shops restaurants. Bonlender was a big proponent of projects on the eastside and played a big role in the development of the Kiwanis skate park. The city is expected to make the change during the council meeting 6:00 p.m. at Yakima City Hall.
