E-Verify for the City of Yakima? I say It’s Time

The Yakima City Council will take up the issue of E-Verify at Tuesday night's meeting.  Why now? The better question is why not earlier?  The point of E-Verify is to simply

do all that is possible to insure that city taxpayer money is paid to workers who are legally eligible for employment.

It is a minor extension of the procedures already in place.  It is NOT a burden to employers. It does not contain a racial component though the critics would have you believe otherwise.

Times are tough, unemployment is over 9%.  Companies who follow the rules deserve a fair playing field.  Homeland Security sanctions it. Here's hoping The City Council passes it Tuesday night.
