6 Neat Things You Can Do at the Yakima Harman Center This Month
Even if you haven't hit the retirement age of 65 years old, as long as you are ages 50 and up, there are fun things you can do at the Harman Center in Yakima. You might even want to start this week because there's a round of Bunco this Friday!
Harman Center: A Place That Yakima Rallies Behind to Keep Open
Last winter, hundreds of locals showed up to Yakima City Council meeting pleading with the Council to keep funding the Yakima Harman Senior Center on N 65th Ave in West Valley. The building was constructed with aging seniors in mind so that they could have a dedicated place to meet up, learn new skills, socialize, coordinate travel to places near and far, and learn new skills. There's even a small library on site.
Sometimes there are senior group trips to local events like the Yakima Pippins baseball games, bus trips to Washington State-area casinos, and trips abroad (like Italy!).

Not Just Classes, Games & Trips, There's Good Food at the Harman Center, Too
I go to the Harman Center twice a month to attend Quilt Guild meetings and on my way out the door, I always grab some of the brochures and flyers in the lobby. I keep hoping that one of these days, I'll be able to find time to go to one of their schedule events. Last week, I noticed there were flyers for Bunco on April 10th, Bingo every Saturday mornings from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Who's down to join me?
The Harman Center strives to keep costs to attend their events affordable because many of the people it serves are on fixed incomes, which I can appreciate. The Yakima Valley Senior Citizens Inc. group hosts a Taco Feed on the last Wednesday of each month for 8 bucks plus other foodie events including feeds that feature baked potatoes, spaghetti, desserts, and more.
