Cheapest Gas in Yakima: Wheelers Smoke and Gas at $3.01
After a weekend of driving gas prices are up 3.2 cents if you're filling the tank this week according to a recent survey by GasBuddy. The average price for a gallon of gasoline in Yakima is now averaging $3.57 per gallon. Meanwhile, the statewide average remains unchanged at $3.94 per gallon.
PRICES ARE UP ACROSS THE BOARD
Locally, Yakima's gasoline prices have increased by just 1 cent per gallon compared to a month ago, offering some relief as prices stand 9.1 cents lower than they were at the same time last year. This pattern echoes the national trend where the price for a gallon of diesel has seen a slight bump of 4.4 cents in the past week, averaging $3.65 per gallon.
WE KNOW WHERE TO FIND THE CHEAPEST GAS
For those looking to save on fuel, the valley offers competitive prices. Wheelers Smoke and Gas in Mabton leads with the lowest price at $3.01 per gallon, while Costco and Ahtanum Fuel Stop in Union Gap follow closely at $3.10 per gallon.
THE PRICE OF OIL
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, attributes the recent stability in gas prices to a decline in oil prices. Following President Trump's address at the World Economic Forum urging Saudi Arabia to increase oil production, crude oil prices have decreased by more than $5 per barrel compared to previous weeks.
WILL TARIFFS BE IMPLEMENTED?
"With the February 1 deadline for potential U.S. tariffs on Canadian and Mexican crude oil imports looming, we're keeping a close watch on the situation,” De Haan noted. “For now, I am cautiously optimistic that tariffs won't be implemented, allowing gas prices to remain fairly stable in the coming weeks. However, we anticipate a seasonal rise in prices starting mid-to-late February.” As local residents plan their next fill-up, De Haan says it may be a prudent time to take advantage of the current prices before the expected seasonal increase kicks in.
