Sunday marked the last day of the Central Washington State Fair, but people were still flooding through the gates, enjoying the food, rides and animal attractions.

Fair organizers told us the rainy weather early this week had them concerned that fair attendance might be down again this year, but the sunshine over the weekend made up for the bad weather.

“We had a big day yesterday. We had almost 56,000 people in one day. That's pretty close to an all-time record for us,” fair spokesperson Rob Phillips told KNDO.

Phillips said they are expecting to have had more than 300,000 people walk through the gates over the course of the fair.

That will raise attendance by 13 percent from last year.

Fair food is always a big hit -- Phillips told us they sell thousands of corn dogs, and they could very well be their biggest seller this year.

Vendors started closing up shop around 9 p.m., but the rides remained open till 11. By morning you could barely tell the fair had been here.

Phillips says fair officials are already planning for next year. The 2015 fair will be Sept. 25-Oct. 4.

He said they even have a new theme in the works, but he is not giving that secret away just yet.
