The annual Luminaria Walk at the Yakima Area Arboretum set for Friday and Saturday, December 10 and 11 from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

 The Jewett Interpretive Center won't be open but they'll have fire pits outside

Thousands of people can expect a night of quiet relaxation and fun as volunteers and staff line a mile long pathway through the landscape of the Yakima Area Arboretum with over a 1000 candle-lit bags. Parking isn't allowed on grounds of the arboretum so city officials recommend you take the city shuttle bus. The Jewett Interpretive Center will be closed because of COVID-19 concerns.

Plan to take the shuttle bus to the event

A release from the city of Yakima says;
Shuttle buses will run continuously from the parking lot of the current U-Haul Neighborhood Dealer (formerly the K-Mart store parking lot), located south of Highway 24. The Arboretum is located north of Highway 24, just across the road from the U-Haul parking lot.  Shuttle buses will load passengers in the parking lot and take them directly to the Arboretum’s Jewett Interpretive Center. Yakima Transit shuttles will run from 5:30 pm to 10:30 pm on both December 10th and 11th. The Luminaria Walk event on those days will run from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Due to federal regulations, all passengers are required to wear masks or face coverings while on board the bus. “No vehicle traffic will be allowed on the Arboretum’s grounds,” said Yakima Transit Manager Alvie Maxey.  “By not allowing traffic on the grounds, congestion will be relieved and safety will be improved.”
City officials say between Friday and Saturday they expect to provide some 6,000 passenger trips.

If you've never visited you could start a new family tradition this year

The Arboretum’s annual Luminaria Walk features a loop trail through the Arboretum’s landscape. The trail is lit by the light of more than 1,000 candles and landscape is also full of lights. Visit https://www.ahtrees.org/ for more about the Yakima Area Arboretum and Luminaria, including parking and traffic restrictions during the two-night event.

City officials say to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Jewett Interpretive Center will be closed during the event. However the Center’s courtyard will be open with fire pits to help guests stay warm. Doughnuts and warm drinks will be available for sale.
