2 Sentenced in Vancouver Burglary, Assault of Buddhist Nun
VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) — A Vancouver man and teenage boy have been sentenced to prison for burglarizing a home last year and assaulting a 65-year-old woman who lived there.
The Columbian reports that 30-year-old Vincent Burnett got 17 years in prison and 16-year-old James Thompson Jr. got 16 years when they were sentenced Thursday in Clark County Superior Court. Thompson was also sentenced for assaulting a juvenile detention center employee during an escape attempt.
Burnett pleaded guilty to assault, robbery and unlawful imprisonment. Thompson pleaded guilty to attempted second-degree murder, robbery and other charges.
The probable-cause affidavit says the two broke into an east Vancouver home in April 2015 and assaulted a Buddhist nun who lived there. She suffered head injuries. She told the court Thursday that she still cries daily because of the attack.
Both defendants apologized in court.
