Firefighters say a fire in the Selah area Saturday was another sign of what could be a tough fire season ahead. Firefighters spent the weekend battling flames from the fire, which was reported at about 4:30 p.m. Saturday on state Department of Natural Resources land near Buffalo Road in the Selah area. The cause remains under investigation. Yakima Fire Department Capt. Jeff Pfaff warns folks to be careful because it's dry out there. "With these warmer temperatures it dries that fuel out and it can ignite quick," Pfaff says.
More than 100 firefighters were on the scene of the fire over the weekend. No structures burned and no injuries were reported. The cause remains under investigation, but the last three local fires have been started by people losing control of controlled burns.
