Yakima Valley Community College’s 2012-2013 Faculty Lecture Series kicks off on Oct. 24 with Gordon Koester presenting Graveyard to Grad School.

Graveyard to Grad School outlines Koester’s journey from an untrained blue-collar cemetery worker to a college graduate and professional journalist and then on to graduate school. The presentation also notes the common habits of mind and body that caused him to be “successful” in all three careers, as well as the pitfalls and personal costs of pursuing professional perfection.

Gordon Koestler earned his undergraduate degree in American Studies at Washington State University and his master’s degree in English at Central Washington University. A former award-winning journalist, Koestler has taught developmental studies, college composition, and various literature courses at YVCC for almost 20 years. He has served as liaison with the Washington Center for Improving the Quality of Undergraduate Education for the past decade and is an advocate for integrated studies and collaborative teaching and learning.

The lecture will be held in the Parker Room on the YVCC Yakima Campus at 7:00 p.m. on Oct. 24.
