Yakima School District Employees Kickoff The New School Year

Yakima School District employees will gather at the Yakima Convention Center from 8:00 – 11:00 a.m. to kick off the 2012-13 school year.  The event will be preceded by a continental breakfast and benefits fair at 6:45 a.m.  The national anthem will be performed by four district music teachers – Shannon Ruiz (Davis), Lisa Rogers (Franklin), Laurel Cawley (Eisenhower) and Steve Churchwell (Discovery Lab).   This year’s keynote speaker will be Dr. Robert Brooks from Harvard Medical School.  Also addressing the district staff will be school board president Martha Rice, district superintendent Dr. Elaine Beraza, Mike Broadhead, representing United Way, and Amy Neal from the Yakima Schools Foundation.

FIRST DAY OF CLASSES . . . Although students at Adams and Barge-Lincoln elementary schools and Washington Middle School started school last week, all other students enrolled in the Yakima School District will begin classes on Wednesday, August 29.  Bus schedules are posted at all schools and buses will begin running the first day of school.
