At one time, Yakima boasted the largest interurban electric railway in the western United States. Even after the automobile became the preferred mode of transportation, the system moved fruit and freight all over Yakima.

In 1976, two vintage electric trolleys were purchased and leisure rides that ran deep into West Valley and Selah were a big draw for locals and tourists alike.

Through the years, financial problems, theft, and other problems have beset the trolleys' volunteer operation. But, a dedicated group of trolley lovers continues to maintain and operate the trolleys.

Carl Pasten and Paul Edmonson, volunteers with the Yakima Valley Trolleys  were guests on Friday's Mike Bastinelli show. They talked about the upcoming trolley season and what the future holds for the Yakima Trolleys.
