American Red Cross chapters in Yakima and Benton counties are helping people recover from the deadly mudslide.

Peggy Hoggarth with the American Red Cross office in Benton County says 14 people from Yakima and Benton counties are currently working in Snohomish County. She says the volunteers will be there for another two weeks because there is a lot of work to be done.

Even people who are happy to escape with their life are still going to be suffering for sometime.

Hoggarth says the Red Cross volunteers sent from Yakima and Benton counties are people who have previously responded to some of the most catastrophic disaster in recent history including hurricanes Katrina and Sandy. She says many of the volunteers are not digging through the mud; they are going to help the families affected in other ways.

Mental health counselors are part of the group.
