Fresh crews of firefighters are arriving to take up the fight against a central Washington wildfire that has burned across more than two square miles — or 1,500 acres — of trees, grass and brush south of Mansfield.

Fire spokesman Ron Fryer said Monday night that the Rock Hill Fire was 40 percent contained.

He said the fire that started Sunday evening has burned two single-wide mobile homes and eight outbuildings. The cause is still under investigation.

Fryer said local fire crews will be able to take a break with fresh firefighters arriving from around the state. About 200 firefighters will be on the lines today. The spokesman said fire bosses hope for full containment by Friday.

Elsewhere in Washington, firefighters worked Monday to mop up two other wildfires that burned over the weekend: a 180-acre fire outside Wenatchee and a 600-acre fire near Benton City.
