Prognosticators used to read tea leaves and feel head bumps to make predictions .  Today you can just look at twitter.  I’m pretty  sure I wouldn’t have believed the leaves and I’m not so sure about the results of the new twitter research.

Researchers looked at Twitter posts from over 4,000 twitter users. They determined each person's political affiliation based on people they followed on the site. (wait, what about keeping your friends close and your enemies closer, what about stalkers?)

The language patterns of both parties were then compared, as well as facial expressions of politicians in photos. They found that while conservatives say they're happier, liberals actually show more happiness. (“What, me worry?” kind of happiness?)

The researchers say real happiness shows up in people's behavior and they noted –from twitter interpretations- that  conservatives were more likely present overly positive versions of themselves on social media compared to liberals.

Researchers also say  the study doesn't offer the final word any more than earlier studies on the same topic.
