Yakima Woman Seriously Injured in Bicycle/Vehicle Crash Tuesday
A 49-year-old woman was seriously injured Tuesday after being struck by a vehicle while riding her bike in the 800 block of South 16th Avenue.
OFFICERS FOUND THE VICTIM AND DRIVER AT THE SCENE
Yakima Police Officers were called to the area at about 9:20 pm Tuesday where they found the victim and the driver at the scene. The 55-old driver told police he was driving southbound in the 800 block of 16th Avenue near Saint Helens Street when he struck the woman who suffered serious injuries.
THE VICTIM WAS TAKEN TO A YAKIMA HOSPITAL WITH SIGNIFICANT INJURIES
Authorities say the 49-year-old victim was taken to Multicare Yakima Memorial Hospital with a traumatic brain injury, collapsed lungs and a damaged right eye. She was transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where she's being treated today. Police say she was riding with another person when she was struck by the vehicle.
THE 55-YEAR-OLD DRIVER TOLD POLICE HE WAS DRINKING BEFORE THE CRASH
The 55-year-old driver told police he had been at a local restaurant for dinner and had two drinks. He refused field sobriety tests and was taken to the hospital for a blood test.
Police arrested the man on a charge of First Degree Vehicular Assault. He was booked into the Yakima County jail.
