Yakima Veterans See Lots of Free Services at Stand Down Fair
More than 11,000 veterans call Yakima County home and every year many local veterans get lots of help at the Stand Down Benefits Fair. This year's event is set for October 22 in the Yakima Valley Sundome from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.
Dave Brown Coordinator of the Yakima County Veterans Program says many veterans can gain valuable services and information at the benefits fair which is all free to vets and their immediate family members.
Free services for veterans and their families
A free lunch is served and lots of free services like VA medical/shots, dental, counseling, help with VA claims and haircuts are available. In fact Brown says more than 100 different services will be offered to veterans and family members. He says more than 13,000 veterans call Yakima home so he's hoping for a lot of people at the event.
The Stand Down Veterans Benefits Fair is set for Saturday October 22 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm in the Yakima Valley Sundome at State Fair Park, 1301 Fair Avenue in Yakima.
Events in 2020 and 2021 were impacted by COVID-19 but not this year
The event is free for veterans and immediate family members. COVID-19 didn't stop the event from happening in in 2020 or 2021 although it was impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. On Saturday, October 22 all services that have been available in past non-COVID-19 impacted events will be available to veterans and their families.
