A PIVOTAL POINT IN THE DISTRICT'S HISTORY

Yakima-Tieton Irrigation District Manager Travis Okelberry says the importance of this moment for the district is huge and he described the declaration as a pivotal point in the district’s history, especially following the extensive damage caused by the Retreat Fire. Okelberry credited a collective effort of local officials, experts, and community members for the determination, noting that while challenges remain, failure is not an option.
The district had initiated a partial shutdown on July 23, 2024, as a result of the Retreat Fire, which burned along a section of the canal, causing damage from falling trees and rocks.
